The Shield of Constantinople dial is a tribute to the city that held the Christian East for over a thousand years, and to what carries forward after a city falls. The shield motif is drawn from the imperial heraldry of the late Byzantine period: the cross at the center, the four betas, Βασιλεύς Βασιλέων, Βασιλεύων Βασιλευόντων, "King of Kings, ruling over those who rule", at each quadrant.
The city fell in 1453. The symbol did not. It passed north to Moscow, into the heraldry of every Christian throne that claimed continuity. This watch puts the same shield on a wrist for the first time.

For 1,123 years, Constantinople was the center of the Christian world. Not Rome. Constantinople. The largest city in Christendom, the richest in Europe, the most fortified on earth. Its walls held for a millennium. This was only possible after the battle of the Milvian Bridge that was led by the symbol of Christ, the Chi Rho.
The symbol
It all started at the Battle of the Milvian Bridge on October 28, 312 AD. Before the battle, Constantine saw a vision of the first two Greek letters of "Christ", forming the Chi Rho sign in the sky with the words "In this sign, you will conquer" (Latin: In Hoc Signo Vinces). This led him to place it on his warriors' shields to deem victorious.
