The Imperial Eagle dial carries the double-headed eagle of the Palaiologos dynasty, the emblem of the Byzantine Empire's last ruling family, who held Constantinople from 1261 until its fall in 1453. One head faces East, the other West. In its talons: the globus cruciger, and a sword.
